Special Telecommunication Service (''Serviciul de Telecomunicații Speciale'' in Romanian, abbreviated STS) is the Romanian institution that coordinates the activities in the field of special communications. STS is an agency with military status. ==Activity== The service provides special communication facilities to all of the institutions accredited by law (such as the Presidency, Government and other bodies of national interest). STS is in charge of "transmissions, emissions or receptions of signs, signals, writings, images, sounds or information of any kind, transmitted through wire, radio, optic system or other electromagnetic systems". STS is also in charge of the Single National Emergency Call System (abbreviated SNECS), which operates the emergency telephone number, 112.〔 (112.ro )〕 SNECS, including its infrastructure, falls under the direct command of STS.
